September 4 Saturday at Saratoga Stakes Stats: 2 Breeders’ Cup Challenge G1’s, 2 more graded stakes; Long shot specials
.
Saturday, September 4, 2021. Saratoga is ending its meet in style this Labor Day weekend with a slew of graded stakes races. Today the Grade 1 races include two Breeders’ Cup Challenge win-and-in races: The Flower Bowl for the BC Filly/Mare Turf, and the Jockey Club Gold Cup for the BC Classic.
.
Two more graded races are on the card with the Prioress G2 and Saranac G3. Unfortunately, 3 of these races have fields of only 6 and one of them has only 5 due to a morning scratch. But there are also some intriguing MSW’s including 2 for 2yo’s. The 12 race card went underway at 12:35PM.
.
We will point out some good long shot specials and other plays today to get you some good earnings. Get today’s free Saratoga Grid to follow along and make your picks.
.
R3 has a good long shot special with Waxman, a first timer coached by Pletcher at 8-1ML. Yes the chalk is solid but it’s a maiden race so keep in mind both are winless. Ubiquitous at 6-1 ML has top PF at distance.
.
R4 again has a solid favorite but Harper’s in Charge has top speed switching to turf, only 4-1. Fort Drum won last out first on turf, 2nd career race, with 2nd best PF in the field, 15-1.
.
R5 is the Prioress G2 with a field of 5 so there won’t be any viable long shots despite what the ML’s say.
.
R6 is a MSW for 2yo’s on turf. I’ll Figure It Out goes first time on turf, 2nd career race, with top EP at 12-1. Southern Sense tries turf for the first time, high dirt PF in field at 20-1. With all of that said, Pletcher’s first timer Annapolis will probably win at 2-1.
.
Race 7 is a MSW for 2yo’s on dirt at 7f. Only 2 have run and lost narrowly their first time out. However, another Pletcher first timer at 7-2, and a Barclay Tagg unraced at 15-1. Anything can happen.
.
Race 8 is the Saranac G3 with a chalky field of 6,, but I’ll give Mohs at 12-1 ML a shot to hit the board.
.
Race 9 has good looking chalk again, but Tax me Naught first time on turf at 20-1 and Golden Oldie with top LP at 10-1 are impossible to ignore.
.
Race 10 looks like a 2 horse race, 1 of them being Baby Yoda at 6-1 ML, but those odds will probably reduce.
.
Race 11 is the Flower Bowl G1, with a field of only 6. La Signare at 5-1 is my top pick and American Bridge is in North America for the first time at 12-1 after a G3 win last out.
.
Race 12 the JCGC G1 at 10f looks very chalky, but Night Ops has top LP at 5-1, and don’t be surprised to see Forewarned hit the board but it will be much less than the ridiculous 50-1 ML.

.
That’s it for today, see there’s some value in every race with good long shot specials scattered around. The first two races of the day were 5-1 winners and there could be some more at better odds.
